Day 7- Home and last thoughts
It’s English, but still:
-French fries = chips
-Potato chips = crisps
-Cookies = Biscuits
-Diapers = Nappies
-Athletic shoes = Trainers
-Sweater = Jumper
-Watch your step = Mind the Gap
-Exit = Way out
And my favorite:
-if you see something, say something = See it, say it, sorted.
Super easy to get around on the Tube, or Underground. Like NYC, don’t need a ticket or Oyster Card, just swipe any card with a chip at the turnstile. Our Tottenham court Road station has been recently renovated and is the nicest one we’ve used.
Took the Underground directly from the airport terminal to a stop 5 minutes from our VRBO. Easy trip back as well. Weather cooperated again. Partly sunny to get our bags to the train for the airport!π
Ooh baby! Access to the Aspire lounge at Heathrow! Apparently Platinum status means more here than at home! Full breakfast, WiFi, pastries, Prosecco! Or, they’ll do a Mimosa! (It’s not day drinking when it’s a breakfast cocktail. I read that on the internet!)
That was the extent of our airport luck. I saw empty seats on the map in Delta One and tried trading a companion fare ticket for a couple of seats that will go empty, but no go. (They probably know the companion tickets are useless and they won’t have to redeem those anyway!!) Worth a try!
We had many helpful suggestions from friends who had been to London and we do read the travel guides. Rick Steves and Top10 are favorites. We did buy theatre tix beforehand but it might have been possible to get tix for some shows once we got here.
First time packed for a week in a carryon and still brought too many clothes (but none of them interesting!) In my defense it was cooler than expected so I didn’t wear the couple of really warm weather stuff I brought. Suitcase expanded and checked on the way home; shoulder carryon with some souvenirs on the plane.
Much better weather than expected. Saw everything that we wanted to see and more. Our flat was great and in a great location but I’m not sure we’d do a 3-floor walk up again! All in all a wonderful trip! And no one went to the hospital!
Just from our apartment to the plane: 4800 steps! Now we sit for 8 hours!
Uneventful flight. Global Entry made the Customs/Passport check process faster. Brian brought Harper with him to pick us up from the airport!π
